Lee Hock Moh 李福茂

Born in Singapore in 1947, Hock Moh graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1970. Hock Moh is well known for the orchids that he depicts in his paintings in the traditional Chinese Gongbi style, a style characterised by fine brushwork and close attention to detail. He is said to be the first Singapore artist to specialise in painting orchids with the Chinese brush medium and is reputed to be one of the finest orchid painters in Asia. Though he started painting landscapes, his love for orchids remains unchanged. He has been recognised through the following awards: Cultural Medallion, Government of Singapore (1981), Special Award, Ministry of Culture (1975, 1976 & 1983), and Special award by the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association (1980).
